What is a Local Strategic Partnership?

*

Every local authority area in England has to have a Local Strategic Partnership.

Although we are not a statutory body, many of our partners have a statutory duty under the 'Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007' to work in partnership to develop and deliver the Local Area Agreement.

We formed as a group back in 2000 and were called 'Partners and Communities Together'.  We developed and delivered the Community Strategy for the Braintree District.

During 2007, legislation was passed that gave the duty to local authorities to develop and deliver a 'Sustainable Community Strategy'.  Work began on the Strategy with consultation with community groups, organisations and other stakeholders.

We realised though, that the structure we had for our LSP could be improved which would help us to deliver the Strategy.  During 2008, we considered the changes needed and in October 2008 we restructured ourselves and became the Braintree District Local Strategic Partnership (LSP).

We changed from a two tier partnership group to a three tier partnership group, allowing us to separate our strategic and operational elements from one another whilst maintaining our communication and engagement links between the three tiers.

Our three tiers are the:

We hold an annual LSP Assembly for all our members, Councillors, community and voluntary groups and stakeholder organisations to come together to discuss key issues for the LSP.
